Want a level 100 route that doesn't turn POE 3.29 into a slow-motion loot inspection? Abyss in T16 City Square is the XP meta I'd start with, because it keeps monsters, movement, and map completion pointed in the same direction. You'll still earn POE currency from the run, but the real payoff is chaining dense maps without letting side content eat your session.

Why City Square Fits the Abyss Grind

POE 3.29 Abyss farming works because City Square gives the encounter room to travel while keeping you close to the next pack. Instead of backtracking through a maze map, you can sweep the outer lanes, react to the Abyss path, and keep your movement skill on cooldown. The farm is strongest with T16 maps, high pack size, two Multitude Scarabs, three Abyss Scarabs, and Atlas passives aimed at Abyss monsters plus experience. Do this, not that.

Do prepare a batch of maps before the session starts.
Do follow the Abyss first, then clear nearby packs as you move.
Do use a strict loot filter built for speed.
Don't stop for every rare item, chest, or altar choice.
Don't force eight-mod maps if one modifier turns your build into a respawn simulator.

The Part Most XP Guides Underestimate

Raw XP per map is only half the story in POE 3.29. Hideout time, rolling maps, checking drops, portal loading, and deaths quietly destroy an otherwise great setup. From what I've seen, the player finishing slightly less dense maps in a clean rhythm often beats the player running greedier maps with constant pauses. Your target isn't the most ridiculous screenshot map; it's the best repeatable maps-per-hour rate your build can sustain for a long grind.

Pure XP or Rare-Stacking Loot?

POE 3.29 offers two sensible Abyss directions, and mixing them carelessly is where many sessions lose their identity. A pure XP setup wants immediate clears and fast exits. The rare-stacking variation, using Propagation and Allflame interactions described in current player testing, asks you to pay more attention to valuable rare monsters and their modifiers. That can produce better loot, but it also adds decision time and tougher fights.

Approach        Best for        What slows it down
Pure Abyss XP        Level 95-100 pushes        Over-looting and risky map mods
Rare-stacking Abyss        XP plus income        Waiting, reading rares, harder combat
Extra density setup        High-clear DPS builds        Too many separate encounters

Build Checks Before You Spend Scarabs

POE 3.29 Abyss doesn't demand one approved skill, but it does punish gaps in a loadout. You need enough screen coverage to erase repeated spawns, movement speed to stay on the route, recovery for sustained chip damage, and enough single-target DPS for empowered rares. And, defensive comfort matters more at level 99 than a theoretical damage peak. A death costs XP and breaks the tempo that makes City Square attractive in the first place.

My Quick Map Routine

In POE 3.29, roll the City Square batch first, separate the maps your build dislikes, apply scarabs, then run them with one rule: the Abyss dictates the route. Clear each pit, finish the final encounter, glance at the reward point, and leave unless something is plainly worth your time. Central bosses are optional; include them only if your single-target damage makes them nearly free. Community reports of very high hourly XP are possible, but no number matters if your own run contains repeated deaths or lengthy stash cleanup.

Keep the Goal Honest

The best POE 3.29 Abyss farm is the one that matches why you logged in. For a serious XP push, City Square density and disciplined exits beat chasing every shiny drop. For a hybrid session, slower rare-stacking can be satisfying, especially when POE exalted orbs and scarab returns matter alongside progression. Pick the goal before opening the first map, tune your Atlas and scarabs around it, then let consistency do the heavy lifting.
